This object, this battered car made from tin cans, was brought back from Tanzania for me by my little sister. She’s not really my ‘little sister’ of course – she was in her mid 20s when she went to live in Africa for a year. Since she had all her possessions in a backpack for the whole year, I was really surprised that she brought this pretty bulky object back for me.

It’s moved house with me a few times since Hannah gave it to me and each time it’s been moved from shelf to shelf and box to box. It’s one of those things that I could never throw away, as it means too much, but the idea of it taking on a new life in this project is really interesting to me. Jim
