At first these socks were important because of when I got them and who gave them to me, and then because they were so cosy and warm that I always wore them if I was feeling ill or sad and wanted to be cosy. They have got holes and are a bit shrunken, and they weren’t cosy any more, but I couldn’t bare to get rid of them because I felt like just having them in the bottom of a drawer was comforting.

I don’t really need them any more. I still couldn’t bring myself to just throw them in the bin, and they can’t have any value to anyone else, so there isn’t really another option. But I feel like I can put them ‘away’ without really abandoning them. Rebecca
